Career Summary:
Beth Ann “Becky” Melton was an outstanding basketball player from 1978-1982 at Celina High School, and was also well-known for her prowess as a women’s/co-ed softball player from 1979-2006.
Melton remained a star athlete for the better part of three decades here in the Upper Cumberland, as she competed at a high level on the diamond well beyond her high school career.
As a Lady Bulldog basketball player, Melton scored one of the highest point totals ever, with a 39-point outing against Burkesville, KY. She was a consistent scorer throughout her career and was also known as a fierce defender and rebounder.
With no high school softball program in her day, Melton began her softball career outside of school at the age of 15 playing in adult leagues and she continued to compete with some of the best competition around for 27 years.
She was a longtime member of the widely known Misfits team, which was one of the best teams in the region for many years.
Melton also played with the Lady Bojacks travel team, which held the distinction of being one of the top teams in the state for multiple seasons.

“Becky was not only a great basketball player for the Lady Dawgs, she also proved the type of athlete she was by playing softball for years to follow.
“Due to her longevity and the impact she had on sports outside of school, I feel she is more than deserving of being considered for induction into the Clay County Sports Hall of Fame.”
