Dan Fox
Nomination year: 2019
Nominated by: Thomas P. Weaver
Nomination Category: Athletes & Coaches
Sport: Football
Years Participated: 1991-1994
Career Summary:
Dan Fox became the all-time leading tackler for his position while playing offensive and defensive line for the Bulldogs under head coaches Joe Neal Eads, Randall Walker, and David Threet from 1991-1994, when he helped his Celina High School team reach the playoffs all four years of his career.
As a three-year starter playing both ways with a unmatched passion for the game, Fox amassed 213 total tackles—which not only ranks 1st for a defensive lineman, but also 9th all-time for any position.
He was also the anchor of his team’s offensive line and helped pave the way for his classmate and Hall of Fame tailback Gary Davis to become the school’s all-time leading rusher.
For his efforts and due the respect he earned from opposing teams throughout his career, Fox was honored with either all-district or all-region honors the three years he started and he was also an All-State Honorable Mention his senior year.
Nominator comment:
“Dan Fox was the epitome of what a football player should be and he deserves to be recognized for the way he played the game he loved, because he excelled at it by recording the most tackles ever made by a Bulldog lineman.
“That stat alone makes him deserving of Hall of Fame induction, but when you add in his overall body of work on both sides of the ball, it’s a no-brainer. Dan did the dirty work and he did it well. It’s time he gets rewarded for it.”
