Jeff Brown
Nomination year: 2018
Nominated by: Daniel Strong
Nomination Category: Athletes & Coaches
Sport: Football
Years Participated: 1987-1990
Career Summary:
Jeff Brown is widely considered the best Bulldog lineman of the past 40 years and perhaps the best of all time. He coupled size with speed, strength with agility, and intelligence with ferocity to become one of the most formidable football players to ever don the black and gold.
A three year offensive starter for head coach Russell Richardson from 1988-1990, Brown paved the way at the line of scrimmage and downfield for Hall of Fame members Jason Hamilton, Brian Burchett, Steven Arms, and Bobby “Toopy” Kerr.
During a two-season starting role on the defensive line, Brown amassed 178 tackles and his 90 stops in a single season for a defensive lineman is second only to Hall of Fame member James Bartlett.
During his senior campaign, Brown was the anchor of a defense which allowed a mere 5.2 points per game, and shut out its opponents five times. He was also named to the All-District team three consecutive years (‘88-’90) and received the status of All-State Honorable Mention in 1990.
Nominator comment:
“Jeff Brown set the bar so high on the offensive and defensive line that few have approached his level since, and none have attained it. The Hall of Fame is chocked full of quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers. It is a travesty to not include one of our most celebrated linemen.”
